Steel Engravings – 19th-Century Swiss Views
Steel engraving became widespread from about 1820: the hard steel plate allowed very fine lines and large print runs. It became the technique of the great books of Swiss views. Here you will find prints after Ludwig Rohbock, William Henry Bartlett and Girard, and from the Basel publisher Chr. Krüsi, in black and white and hand-coloured.
