About the Work

A charming little view of the Felsenegg above Zug – the beloved lookout over Lake Zug facing the Rigi and Pilatus. The herdsman with his goats in the foreground and the delicate foliage-and-fruit border make this a quintessentially Romantic travel souvenir of the 19th century. Zug-specific subjects like this appeal especially to collectors of Central Switzerland.

Provenance

The back of the sheet bears a calligraphic dedication: 'Herzliche Gratulation und Glückwunsch zum 50. Geburtstag – Annarös und Koni' (warmest congratulations on your 50th birthday). This view of Zug was therefore originally a lovingly chosen 50th birthday present, a piece of Central Swiss family memory that gives the work a personal provenance.
