About the Work
A charming hand-coloured steel engraving of the village view of Arth on Lake Zug, engraved by Grobert after a drawing by Girard from a French Switzerland series of the Biedermeier period. The vivid hand-colouring with its deep blue lake and fresh greens makes this sheet a real eye-catcher. The reverse stamp of the Zug bookbindery Sedlacek-Acklin documents its local origin and gives the work an attractive Zug provenance.
Provenance
From a private collection in Zug: this coloured steel engraving shows the classic view of Arth on Lake Zug. The blue stamp 'Frz. Sedlacek-Acklin Buchbinderei ZUG' on the back shows that the sheet was once framed or bound in a Zug workshop, authentic evidence of its regional origin and its long history in Zug.
