About the Work

This finely hand-coloured steel engraving shows Zurich in idyllic calm – the mirror-still lake, the sailing boat and the fishermen on the shore combine cityscape with poetic atmosphere. The draughtsman Ludwig Rohbock was one of the most prolific view-artists of his era. The original hand colouring and matching gilt frame make this a piece that is both decorative and collectible.

Provenance

Framed and gilded by the long-established Zurich framing studio H. Gügi (label on the back 'H. GÜGI ZÜRICH – EINRAHMEN – VERGOLDEN'), which underlines the local Zurich provenance and the careful presentation. The view 'Zürich von der Enge aus gesehen' after Ludwig Rohbock, engraved by G. M. Kurz, documents the city in its romantic lakeside setting around the middle of the 19th century.
