About the Work
This charming double view depicts St. Moritz before the great tourism boom — the wild waterfall and the still village-like Bad St. Moritz with its distinctive bell tower. Signed by draughtsman Ludwig Rohbock and engraver G. M. Kurz, the sheet belongs to the popular topographical steel-engraving series of the mid-19th century. A collector's piece for anyone who loves the world-famous Engadine spa town in its romantic early days.
Provenance
The back of the frame bears the label of the long-established Basel workshop «Zum Goldige Rahme» (F. + M. Ropélé-Vogt, Spalenvorstadt 24, 4051 Basel), picture frames, gilding and restoration. The print was therefore professionally framed and cared for in Basel, which points to a careful Swiss provenance and a decorative condition, ready to hang.
