About the Work
This fine steel engraving comes from William Henry Bartlett's celebrated series 'Switzerland Illustrated' — one of the most influential travel works of the 19th century, which popularised Alpine Romanticism across Europe. The Aar Fall at Handek was already a place of longing for travellers, and Bartlett masterfully captures the dizzying drama of the gorge with its tiny hiker. An authentic piece of Swiss pictorial history, cleanly printed and presented in an elegant gold frame.
Provenance
The label 'Portmann Einrahmungen Zug' on the back documents professional framing by an established Zug framing business. The work comes from a well-kept private collection in Zug, was professionally framed locally and hung on the wall for years.
