About the Work
This hand-coloured steel engraving captures Arth on Lake Zug in its Romantic-era glory – fishermen, rowboats, and the sweeping Alpine panorama of the Rigi massif forming the backdrop. Published by Chr. Krusi in Basel during the height of Swiss tourism print culture, this is exactly the imagery that captivated Grand Tour travellers. The original hand-colouring is vivid and intact, making this a genuinely decorative piece with authentic 19th-century character.
Provenance
This decorative steel engraving of Arth on Lake Zug comes from a private collection in Central Switzerland: framed, coloured and with the full publisher's line of Chr. Krüsi in Basel. Arth, at the southern end of Lake Zug, was a popular starting point for ascents of the Rigi in the 19th century and thus part of the classic Swiss tourist route. Condition: original frame, intact mount with gold lines, bright colouring; a piece that can go straight from the collection onto the wall.
