About the Work

This finely hand-coloured view depicts Rapperswil – the 'Town of Roses' on the upper Lake Zurich – with its striking castle, towers and a lively harbour of steam and sailing boats. The readable signs on historic buildings such as 'Hotel Steinbock' and 'Harmonie' turn the print into a small time capsule of Belle Époque Switzerland. Framed and ready to hang, it is an ideal entry piece into a Swiss topographical collection.

Provenance

Framed by the Zurich framer Alfred Huber (aluminium clip frame, Nordstrasse 2, 8037 Zürich and Katzenrütistrasse, 8153 Rümlang). The additional stamp 'HZ / Regd. Patte[nt] / Swiss Made' confirms an original Swiss aluminium clip frame. The work comes from a private collection in Zug and was professionally framed in Zurich: a clearly documented Swiss connection from frame to subject.
