Wood Engravings – 19th-Century Swiss Views
Wood engraving (xylography) is cut into hard end-grain wood and allows fine lines. It could be printed together with text, which made it the technique of illustrated books and magazines in the 19th century. The prints show Lake Zug, Geneva, Bern Minster, Lucerne, Rapperswil and the Erstfeld valley.
