About the Work

A fine copper engraving by the celebrated Zurich publisher and engraver David Herrliberger, who in the mid-18th century created the most important topographical views of the Zurich countryside. This sheet depicts the manor estate of Uetikon on Lake Zurich with its splendid baroque garden and charming putti staffage – a testament to the rural aristocratic and garden culture of the old Swiss Confederation. With a documented attribution on the reverse and presented in a decorative gold frame, a collectible piece of Zurich regional history.

Provenance

According to the label on the back, this is 'UTICKON – Schloss im Zürich-Gebiet', a copper engraving of about 1750, drawn by J. C. Nözli and engraved by David Herrliberger. The label supports the attribution to the important Zurich engraver and makes the sheet a well-traceable collector's piece from Herrliberger's classic series 'Neue und vollständige Topographie der Eydgnossschaft'.
