About the Work
This 1787 copper engraving is based on a design by Paul Sandby R.A., the 'father of English watercolour' and founding member of the Royal Academy – a major name in English landscape art. The sheet depicts Brocket Hall, the Palladian country seat of Lord Melbourne, set in idyllic parkland with an ox team and a river scene. Its documented provenance as an official gift from the London Stock Exchange in 1994 makes this a genuine conversation piece with a story.
