About the Work
This richly coloured view of Zurich from 1837 captures the city at its most picturesque: the twin towers of the Grossmünster, the busy Town Hall Bridge, and beyond it Lake Zurich framed by the Alps. Drawn by Corrodi, engraved by Weber, and published by the renowned Zurich publisher H. F. Leuthold — a fully documented vedute from the golden age of Swiss cityscapes. The strong, well-preserved period hand-colouring makes this sheet a genuine eye-catcher.
Provenance
According to the inscriptions, drawn by Corrodi in 1837, engraved by Weber and published by H. F. Leuthold in Zurich: a classic, dated and signed view of Zurich in a decorative gilt frame, from a private collection in Zug.
Inscriptions
'Zürich – prise depuis l'Hôtel de l'Épée.' / links unten: 'Dessiné par Corrodi 1837' / rechts unten: 'Gravé par Weber' / 'Publié par H. F. Leuthold à Zurich.'
