About the Work
This charming multi-view lithograph from publisher Max Roon, Zurich (Lith. No. 6373), captures Rothenthurm around 1900 in its idyllic rural character: panorama, church, parish house, Kessler store, and the historic Gasthof zum Schwert – all framed in classic Art Nouveau edelweiss decoration. Rothenthurm gained national fame in 1987 when its citizens voted to protect their wetlands from military development, making this historical document even more meaningful. Provenance from the respected René Horber postcard dealership in Zurich confirms the quality of this selection.
Provenance
Once carefully selected at René Horber, the legendary postcard centre at Badenerstrasse 255 in Zurich and an institution among Swiss print collectors in the 1980s and 1990s, this framed piece shows Rothenthurm at the height of its prosperity around 1900. The Zurich publisher Max Roon printed this precise lithograph under number 6373; today it offers an unaltered view of five landmarks of the Schwyz village. Anyone looking for a link to Central Switzerland, or simply for a decorative, historically grounded wall piece with Art Nouveau charm, will find a ready-to-hang original with a clear origin.
