About the Work

This finely engraved relief map of the cantons of Schwyz and Zug comes from the workshop of the renowned French geographer Théodore Duvotenay, engraved by C. Dyonnet around 1840. The dense, sculptural hatching of the alpine relief brings the mountain landscape around the Rigi, Mythen and Einsiedeln vividly to life. Particularly valuable: the reverse label of the Zug antiquarian house 'Walter Barth Erben' documents local provenance, making this sheet a genuine piece of Zug collecting history.

Provenance

Acquired with the original label of the long-established Zug antiques house 'Walter Barth Erben – Kupferstiche und Antiquitäten' on the back, together with an old handwritten inventory number 'T 145 / 1634'. This firmly anchors the map in the Zug collecting scene: a sheet showing its home canton in fine copper engraving that has already passed through the hands of an established local dealer.
