This finely hand-coloured lithograph comes from the celebrated costume series by the French painter Édouard Pingret and was printed in 1824 by Godefroy Engelmann – the very man who established lithography in France. The lively Solothurn couple, with straw hat, striped apron and painter's palette, presents Switzerland as the romantic idyll so beloved by the early 19th century. The vivid original colouring and the clear, dated signature make this sheet a highly collectible period document.
