About the Work
This finely hand-coloured botanical plate from 1846 depicts an Erica species with its characteristic tubular blossoms alongside precise anatomical studies of stamens, seeds and seed capsule — typical of the scientific yet aesthetic botanical illustration of the Biedermeier era. The delicate colouring in greenish-blue and wine-red makes the sheet an elegant eye-catcher, and the clean framing by Portmann Einrahmungen in Zug gives it genuine interior appeal.
Provenance
The label 'Portmann Einrahmungen Zug' on the back documents careful local framing in Zug. The plate comes from a private collection in Zug and was deliberately presented as a decorative single piece. Dated 1846 and delicately hand-coloured, this original plate is an excellent entry piece into the world of antique botanical prints.
