About the Work

This view depicts the once-renowned bathing resort of Walterswil in the Canton of Zug and comes from Pieter van der Aa's magnificent plate work 'La Galerie agréable du Monde' (Leiden, circa 1730). Van der Aa was one of the most prolific publishers of the Baroque era. The fine engraving and the topographical connection to Zug make this sheet a true regional gem.

Provenance

The back of the work bears an old collector's label with the handwritten note: 'Walterswyl / ZG — aus P. van der Aa: Suisse, La Galerie agréable du monde. Um 1730.' This attribution confirms the origin and date of the sheet from van der Aa's famous publication and documents a well-kept Swiss private collection.
