About the Work
A charming testimony of Swiss costume art around 1800: the engraving depicts named individuals from Baar in the Canton of Zug – P. Meyer and his daughter – in splendid Sunday folk dress with the typical flower-adorned straw hats. The vivid original hand-colouring and the documented provenance through the Zug antiquities house Walter Barth Erben make this a genuine regional treasure.
Provenance
The back of the work bears the label 'Walter Barth Erben Zug – Kupferstiche und Antiquitäten' and the frame label 'W. Knoll, Vergolden und Einrahmen, Zürich', together with handwritten inventory numbers (V, Nr. 804, 9421). The sheet is thus documented twice, through the Zug antiques dealer and the Zurich gilder and frame maker: a consistent record of a Zug collection.
