About the Work

The 'Journal des Demoiselles' was one of the leading Parisian fashion magazines of the 19th century. Its hand-coloured plates showed what fashionable women in Paris were wearing. This plate from January 1882 captures bustle-era ball fashion with flounces, lace and a long train. It names the dressmakers Vidal, the perfume house Guerlain and the Compagnie des Indes, making it a genuine slice of Parisian fashion history that brings charm to any dressing room, salon or boutique interior.

Provenance
