About the Work
This vividly coloured aquatint by James Pollard (1792–1867), one of the most celebrated English sporting artists of his era, portrays the Derby-winning horse 'Moses', bred by the Duke of York and winner of the 1822 Epsom Derby. This finely detailed, original hand-coloured print — with its lively Newmarket setting and full pedigree inscription — is a genuine piece of English racing history.
Provenance
An original early-coloured aquatint by James Pollard, the star of English sporting art in the early 19th century, framed by the respected framer Jakob Keller in Winterthur. It shows 'Moses', the thoroughbred bred by the Duke of York that won the legendary Epsom Derby in 1822, in the typically lively Newmarket setting with trainer, jockey and grooms. A genuine piece of British racing history, with the full breeding record in the caption.
