About the Work
Ludwig Rohbock was one of the defining draughtsmen of 19th-century Swiss view books, and Fr. Hablitschek translated his design into a finely worked steel engraving. The sheet shows the collegiate church of Schönenwerd with its Romanesque apse and baroque tower above the Aare river, brought to life by grazing goats and a woman in traditional dress. Delicate colouring and an elegant gilt frame with gold-lined mat make it ready to hang.
Provenance
