About the Work
This original oil painting by Tian Xuesen (b. 1954) is clearly signed and dated May 1979 — a fascinating snapshot of Chinese painting just after the Cultural Revolution, when Western-influenced plein-air impressionism was free to flourish again. The thick, boldly colored brushwork and the warm red tiled roofs set against the cool shadow of the lane reveal a direct, almost van Gogh-like hand. As a one-of-a-kind hand-painted work with a traceable signature and date, it is far more than décor — it is a document of its time.
Collector Interest
