About the Work

This original 1951 pencil drawing depicts, with great attention to detail, an imposing Bernese farmhouse with its characteristic curved gable and richly articulated half-timbered facade – an icon of rural Swiss building culture. The carefully rendered ladder cart and the finely hatched wooden shingles reveal the hand of a skilled draughtsman. As a hand-signed one-of-a-kind drawing, it is far more personal than any print.

The label 'Buchbinderei H. P. Wälchli – Einrahmungen' on the back points to professional Swiss framing, which underlines the local provenance. The drawing is dated 'Rainwil, August 1951' at lower right and signed 'E. Rickenbacher' at lower left: a hand-drawn original showing a typical Bernese farmstead, drawn from nature on site.
