This hand-coloured lithograph comes from the celebrated costume series drawn by Édouard Pingret in 1824 and printed by Godefroy Engelmann, the pioneer of lithography in France. The pairing of the seated old man with the proud girl in the festive costume of Solothurn makes it a vivid document of early 19th-century Swiss folk culture. The strong original colouring and decorative framing set this example well above the ordinary.

Ein wunderschön handkoloriertes Blatt aus der klassischen Schweizer Trachtenserie von 1824: Der Pariser Maler Édouard Pingret hielt hier ein Paar aus dem Kanton Solothurn fest – einen weise wirkenden Alten und ein junges Mädchen in prächtiger Festtagstracht mit gelbem Strohhut und Weidenkorb. Gedruckt wurde das Werk in der Werkstatt von Godefroy Engelmann, dem Pionier der Lithografie. In seiner dekorativen Goldleiste mit feinem Linien-Passepartout ist es ein charmantes, historisch fassbares Sammlerstück.
