About the Work
This hand-coloured view depicts Bern around 1780 seen from the north – a magnificent panorama of the Aare bend with recognisable landmarks such as the Nydegg church, the clock tower and the Christoffel tower, all identified in a bilingual German/French key. The engraving follows a drawing by Frich, was cut by Leizel and appeared in the Augsburg 'Academie Imperiale' series after Nicolas Perignon. Its vibrant original colouring and documented provenance from the Salzburg antiquarian Johannes Müller make it a genuine collector's piece of Swiss topography.

Altkolorierter Kupferstich von Leizel und Fendrich nach Nicolas Perignon aus Academie Imperiale d'empires des Arts liberaux, Augsburg bei Negoce um 1780, 28 x 42 cm, Preis EU 378.-'. Damit ist Herkunft, Datierung und ursprünglicher Handelspreis dokumentiert – ein starkes Verkaufsargument für die authentische Berner Vedute.
