This finely hand-coloured costume scene depicts three Zurich country folk at the hay harvest and belongs to the popular genre of early-19th-century Swiss costume prints, already sought after as souvenirs and folklore collectibles in the Biedermeier era. The lively, well-preserved colouring and loving attention to bodices, aprons and tools make it a charming record of Zurich everyday life. A real value-adder: the postal receipt on the reverse from 1978 documents its provenance from the specialist print dealer Baumann Werner in Erstfeld/Uri.
