About the Work
This lively view depicts the historic market square of Schwyz at the height of its weekly market — cattle drives, stalls and carriages beneath the unmistakable silhouette of the Grosser and Kleiner Mythen. The work comes from the renowned Basel publisher Chr. Krüsi and was executed by the accomplished engraver C. Huber. The finely rendered mountain massif makes this sheet a small gem of central Swiss topography.
Provenance
Erworben aus dem Bestand des traditionsreichen Zuger Kunsthändlers 'Walter Barth Erben – Kupferstiche und Antiquitäten', wie das originale goldene Händleretikett auf der Rückseite bezeugt. Die alte Preisnotiz 'J 60.-' auf der Rückwand verweist auf die frühere Sammlungsgeschichte. Das Blatt kam über eine Zuger Privatsammlung in den heutigen Bestand.
